Classes & Training

At Cha’s Taekwon-do, our classes are designed to provide students with consistent, progressive training from beginner through advanced levels.

Our goal is not simply to teach techniques, but to help students develop strong fundamentals, discipline, confidence, coordination, focus, and a deeper understanding of Taekwon-do over time.

Students are placed in classes based on age, rank, and experience so they can train in an environment that is appropriate for their current level while continuing to progress through the same overall curriculum.

Children’s Classes

For students through age 12

Our Children’s Classes provide younger students with an environment where they can learn the same Taekwon-do curriculum taught throughout our school while receiving instruction that is appropriate for their age and stage of development.

Classes emphasize strong fundamentals while helping students develop coordination, focus, confidence, discipline, responsibility, and self-control.

Beginning at age 13, students transition into our Family and Adult Classes unless otherwise directed by the school.

Family & Adult Classes

For ages 13 and above

Our Family and Adult Classes are designed for teenagers and adults of varying ranks and experience levels.

Students continue developing their Taekwon-do skills while working on technique, strength, flexibility, coordination, endurance, control, and practical application.

Families may also have the opportunity to train together while each student continues working on material appropriate for their individual rank.

No previous martial arts experience is necessary to begin.

Class Types

Beginner Classes

For White Belts and Yellow Stripes

Beginner Classes are specifically designed for our newest students.

These classes focus on developing the fundamentals necessary for continued training, including stances, blocks, strikes, kicks, balance, coordination, movement, and proper technique.

Keeping these classes limited to White Belts and Yellow Stripes allows students to concentrate on building a strong foundation before progressing into the broader class schedule.

All Levels

For Yellow Belts and Above

All Levels Classes provide students with a broader Taekwon-do training experience.

Depending on the class, training may include fundamentals, kicking, hand techniques, combinations, target work, partner drills, conditioning, and rank-appropriate material.

Students continue building speed, power, accuracy, balance, control, and technical understanding as they progress through the curriculum.

Test Review

For Yellow Belts and Above

Test Review Classes focus on the material students are expected to understand and demonstrate as they progress toward their next rank.

Students review previously learned techniques, work on current requirements, receive individual corrections, and continue developing the consistency and understanding necessary for advancement.

Students are encouraged to focus on proper execution and readiness rather than simply progressing as quickly as possible.

Sparring

For Yellow Belts and Above

Sparring provides students with the opportunity to apply their Taekwon-do skills in a controlled and supervised environment.

Students work on distance, timing, movement, defensive techniques, combinations, counterattacks, control, and working safely with a training partner.

Sparring is introduced progressively as students become more experienced.

Appropriate protective equipment is required for participation.

One Continuous Curriculum

At Cha’s Taekwon-do, children, teenagers, and adults learn from the same core Taekwon-do curriculum.

Taekwon-do was originally developed as a martial art for adults. Rather than creating a separate or simplified children’s program, we adapt the way the material is taught so younger students can learn the same techniques, principles, and progression in an age-appropriate way.

As students grow older, they do not need to relearn an entirely different system or transition into a new curriculum. Their training continues naturally from childhood into the teenage years and adulthood.

This allows students to build on the same foundation over time while developing greater understanding, precision, strength, control, and maturity as they progress.

Belt Progression

Our belt progression is:

White Belt → Yellow Stripe → Yellow Belt → Green Stripe → Green Belt → Blue Stripe → Blue Belt → Red Stripe → Red Belt → Black Belt

Each rank builds upon the material learned previously.

Our curriculum is designed so students continue developing and refining their skills as they progress rather than simply completing one set of material and moving on.

What to Expect in Class

Although each class may vary depending on the students attending and the focus of the lesson, training may include:

  • Warm-ups and physical preparation
  • Fundamental techniques
  • Stances and movement
  • Kicking techniques
  • Hand techniques
  • Combinations
  • Target training
  • Partner drills
  • Conditioning
  • Sparring
  • Test preparation
  • Review and individual corrections

Our instructors adjust the emphasis of each class based on the rank, ability, and training needs of the students attending.

Individual Attention

Although many of our classes are taught in a group setting, students continue to receive individual instruction and corrections.

Our instructors observe each student’s technique and progress and provide feedback based on their current rank, experience, and individual needs.

This allows students to progress within the group environment while continuing to receive personalized guidance.

Structure & Discipline

Structure and discipline are an important part of training at Cha’s Taekwon-do.

Students are expected to listen, follow instructions, show respect toward instructors and fellow students, and take responsibility for their training.

Through clear expectations and consistent practice, students develop habits of focus, perseverance, responsibility, self-control, and respect.

These principles are reinforced throughout training and become increasingly important as students advance.

Safety & Supervision

Student safety is an important part of how our classes are structured.

Partner drills, sparring, and more advanced techniques are introduced progressively and are supervised by our instructors.

Students are expected to demonstrate control and follow instructions when working with others.

Protective equipment is required where appropriate, and students are taught to train responsibly with their partners.

Cleanliness & Facility Care

We take the cleanliness of our school seriously and maintain a consistent cleaning routine throughout the facility.

Training equipment is cleaned and sanitized after use during each class.

In addition, the school is cleaned daily, including—but not limited to—vacuuming, mopping, equipment cleaning, and detailed bathroom cleaning.

Our goal is to provide students and families with a clean, comfortable, and well-maintained training environment every day.

Getting Started

For many younger beginners, typically children age 10 and under, we begin with a free introductory private lesson.

This gives the student and family an opportunity to experience our teaching style, meet the instructor, and determine whether Taekwon-do is a good fit before enrolling.

Once enrolled, the student receives their school uniform and T-shirt and begins their introductory training.

New students may receive up to three private lessons before attending their first group class. After each lesson, the following lesson is scheduled so the student can gradually become familiar with basic techniques, expectations, and the structure of our program.

Experienced students and families with previous Taekwon-do or martial arts training are also welcome.

We begin with an evaluation to better understand previous training, current ability, and familiarity with our curriculum.

Previous rank is taken into consideration, but placement is based on demonstrated ability and compatibility with our program standards.

Our goal is to provide each student with an appropriate starting point and a smooth transition into training at Cha’s Taekwon-do.
